  • Dr. Shelstone Wallace Carr

Obituary of Mr. Shelstone Wallace Carr

Dr. Shelstone Wallace Carr, 97, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020.  Dr. Carr accomplished much in his life but we wish to acknowledge his contributions to the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) profession. In addition to being a Presbyterian minister, Dr. Carr was a professor at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi where he taught courses in Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Carr helped found the Mississippi Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, serving as its first treasurer and then as president for the association. He worked tirelessly to advance the profession and to secure licensure for family therapists. Dr. Carr spent many hours at the Mississippi State Capitol educating legislators on the need to have Marriage and Family Therapists as licensed mental health professionals. He advocated for MFT’s throughout the state with insurance regulators, mental health centers, and hospitals. Those of us who were privileged to know Wallace benefited from his knowledge, service, mentorship, wisdom, humor, and friendship. He will be missed.
