I am so excited to announce that I just received word from the Mississippi Division of Medicaid that our request to add LMFT's as approved providers for mental health services HAS BEEN APPROVED!!!!
This has been a very long process for us on the Board, so we are very grateful for the people at Medicaid for reviewing our request (that was submitted in October of 2019), taking it into careful consideration during a huge time of uncertainty during a pandemic, and approving the request. I had actually received notice in July of 2020 that the Request for Coverage had been approved, but due to the extensive process that credentialing a provider requires we were not able to make any big announcements until Medicaid was ready to receive applications for credentialing. This required some work on their side to prepare to properly review the credentials of LMFT's that would be applying to provide services.
Today I received an email around 9:00am this morning stating that "Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists can begin enrolling with the Division of Medicaid beginning January 1, 2021."
Throughout my tenure thus far on the MAMFT Board, I have been working very hard to get LMFT's recognized by all the insurance plans in the state. I KNOW that LMFT's are more than qualified to serve the people of Mississippi for mental health services, and it has been my mission to ensure that all insurance plans recognized this. I am honored to be able to say that my fellow LMFT's in Mississippi can now be recognized as the highly qualified clinicians that they are AND hope that this recognition by Medicaid will help provide job opportunity and security for LMFT's from now forward.
If you are not currently a member of MAMFT, I invite you to join our membership to be a part of an organization that is focused on issues related to Mental Health and Marriage & Family Therapy in Mississippi. We have been working hard behind the scenes to develop MAMFT into an organization that will continue serve our members with educational and advocacy opportunities so that you can serve your clients best.
I am including the link for Medicaid enrollment below.
Best to you,
